View full detailsManual louvred pergolas use a hand crank or operating rod to rotate the blades. You turn the handle to open the roof, close it, or set it to any angle in between. The mechanism is simple and reliable - there are no motors to service or batteries to replace.
Most people find they set the roof position a couple of times a day at most. For that kind of use, a manual system is perfectly practical.
Yes. The waterproofing comes from the blade design and integrated drainage - not the motor. When the blades are closed on a manual louvred pergola, they overlap and seal just as effectively as a motorised system. Rain runs into the drainage channels and exits through the posts.
The only difference is convenience. A manual system works just as well - you just adjust it by hand rather than by remote.
It suits gardens where the pergola position doesn't change much day to day - a fixed dining area where you open the roof in the morning and close it if rain arrives. It's also the better choice if you want a high-quality louvred system at a lower price point than fully motorised models.
